Five FC Krasnodar players capped for the national teams in the matches under the aegis of FIFA that were held on October 10 and 11, 2017. Three of them led their teams as captains.
It was the first experience of captaining for Fyodor Smolov. His Russia national team tied 1-1 with Iran in Kazan. Smolov was substituted on the 83rd minute when both goals of the match had already been scored.
Black-green midfielder Ilya Zhigulyov captained for the Russia national U-21 team that lost 2-3 to Serbia in an away match of the 2019 UEFA European Under-21 Championship qualification in Novi Sad. Zhigulyov and another FC Krasnodar player, the Academy-trained defensive midfielder Oleg Lanin (he is currently on loan in FC Krylia Sovetov Samara), both spent a full 90 minutes on a field of play.
Centre-back Andreas Granqvist served yet another match as a captain for the Sweden national team. The Swedes lost 2-0 to Netherlands in an away game, but even so they finished second in their UEFA Group A of the 2018 FIFA World Cup qualification thus advancing to the second round of play-offs. Granqvist spent a full 90 minutes on pitch. One more FC Krasnodar representative, attacking midfielder Viktor Claesson, made an early appearance in game and was substituted on the 68th minute.
Left-back Cristian Ramírez played a full game for the Ecuador national team which had already lost any chance to qualify for the World Cup finals. Los Amarillos suffered a 1-3 defeat against Argentina at home with Lionel Messi scoring a hat-trick for the winners.
